Below you can view Science Fair projects from Room 25 and also a few extras from
the wider year 8 group. The students worked extremely hard on their projects and we had a number of projects that were highly commended and two that made it through to the Otago Science Fair! Please have a look through the different projects and feel free to leave a comment. We have started our Science Fair presentations in class as these are due in on Monday. Jacob demonstrated fantastic time management skills and was ready to present a week early! Jacob did a fantastic job and has really set the tone for the rest of the presentations. Make sure you come in and check out all the fantastic work! Our Science Fair boards will be in the hall from Wednesday until Friday so make sure you come in and have a look!
How much do you know about the different countries competing in NewZealand for U20 World Cup glory? Test your skills on the quiz below!
This year as part of our Science Fair investigations we have been looking at the principles of flight. We have been looking at the four forces that act on a paper plane. These consist of thrust, lift, drag and gravity. The whole Y8 group is going to have a paper plane competition (last week of term). We will be judging on longest flight time and longest distance. For inspiration we watched the Paper Planes movie (trailer below) and have now set the goal of seeing if we can throw a paper plane 25m! It's ON! Get researching and designing and see what you can come up with! We are well underway with a range of science experiments this term. This week we looked at modifying a simple pikelet recipe. We discussed the importance of fair testing and only changing one variable at a time. We had some very interesting modified pikelet recipes, which turned out to taste surprisingly good! Good job team!
I'm sure we've all seen the mentos and diet-coke experiment before. Watch the video below and you'll see American science guru Steve Spangler take it to a whole new level. Enjoy! Have a look at the following science experiment! Could you imagine giving this a go? Did you know the egg shell has different densities? |
